Pastor Frank is an avid hiker (he has completed the 2100-mile Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia) and enjoys annual long-distance bicycling trips on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
“My passion for ministry is sharing the gospel with folk who have given up on Jesus and his church. I write most sermons with the skeptic in mind, assuming the presence of much more doubt and questioning in the pews each Sunday than many are willing to admit.”

Thomas J. White, Cantor

Tom joins us after 19 years experience in ELCA congregations in South and North Carolina. A native of western Pennsylvania, he began playing for his family’s Franciscan parish when he was 12 and later went on to complete degrees at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, earning a Masters in Conducting. From his early days of playing until his first post at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mauldin, SC, Tom gained experience providing music for worship at a wide variety of denominations, ranging from Christian Scientist to rural UCC to Orthodox. Since then he has been drawn to the ongoing worship renewal within the ELCA which he describes as “upholding the true nature of the Reformation while reaching back to the practices of the Early Church.”

As part of a tradition of Cantor, he regularly composes and has a creative approach to making worship authentic. His concertato, “Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation,” was commissioned by St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Charleston and performed at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in 2006.

The title “Cantor” was requested by Tom. He writes, “Historically, this word is used by Lutheran church musicians the world-over. There is no better term to express what my
purpose is. Cantor (from Cantare “to sing”) used in its genuine context is best defined as Encourager of Song, or “helping it happen, not making it happen.” This is what I will carry out with your encouragement and God’s help.”

Jami Sprankle comes to Ebenezer from Chapin High School where she taught Biology and Drama. She is married to Jason Sprankle. They have 5 children and 7 grandchildren. Jami has experience teaching children of all ages through her work at museums, zoos, theatres, and more.

She has worked with over 200 species of animals and finds that along with music and the wonders of the family dynamic, living things are her quickest path to seeing God in everyday life.

Jami enjoys family music time, reading, travel and putting stuff in the ground for God to grow. She exercises her creative muscles through theatrical performance and production, writing and composing, and various visual arts. She is very excited to be here!
